The quilts in my Gallery show a wide variety of my quilting interests.
When I started quilting over 20 years ago, I took as many classes as I could, and tried all sorts of techniques... all of which I find add to the rich tapestry of methods and styles quilting now enjoys. But I finally settled on 3-dimensional floral work because it combines both a unique art form -- fabric sculpture -- and the beauty of nature's floral bounty. It also provides texture and permits quilt designs to 'pop' out of the surrounding background. All of these aspects of my 'specialty' endear it to me.
The gallery is organized more or less the way I approach quilting: through flights of fancy. I have done some quilts -- and still do -- that are very traditional, but |
|
usually they are Tradition With a (3D) Twist. Others are more eclectic and done on a whim -- Odds and Ends, or even Just for Fun. Finally, my specialty -- 3-dimension-al, floral sculpture used as appliqué -- is an art form in itself. So, as I've delved into the realm of art quilts and have done many just For Art's Sake.
Clearly, some of these quilts are not perfection, but then I come from Amish country in Pennsylvania originally; and nothing there is done to perfection. The difference, of course, is that the Amish leave imperfections in their work on purpose, while I just do it because I'm not perfect either.
But, I do hope you enjoy the Gallery. Then take a look at some of the more recent wall hangings I've developed as a basis for my Wallflowers Collection patterns. |
